Commercial Glass Collections And Recycling Nationwide
With more and more businesses being aware of the environment and the impact waste has on it, most people now understand the importance of recycling. Not only is it good for the environment, it is also good for business, reducing the cost of general waste collection, helping keep waste out of landfill and ethically it is the right thing to do.
Commercial glass waste can be difficult to dispose of responsibly, especially with the limitations on recycling and general waste bins. Due to its very nature, it’s important to implement safe glass waste management and recycling, as such, provided by GWR Waste Management. We ensure that all glass waste collections from commercial businesses are carried out safely and responsibly.
How Glass Recycling Works
Glass packaging is 100% recyclable and can be endlessly recycled without loss in purity or quality, and is one of the most recycled materials in the UK. It is estimated that it would take around 1 million years for glass to decompose. It is not something that should ever end up in landfill, although large quantities are still sent there.
Glass packaging is very versatile. When it has been melted down, it gains a second life, not just as recycled bottles and jars but also as glass wool, fibre optic cables, and building aggregate. Recycled glass uses approximately 75% fewer raw materials than new glass, helping to maintain natural resources.

Glass Recycling Bins
Our most commonly used commercial glass recycling containers are 240 litre wheelie bins, but we also offer a range of bins and skips of various sizes depending upon your business needs. GWR Waste Management can arrange scheduled collections to suit your requirements.
At GWR Waste Management, we work with you and your business to help you decide on the best bin size that will safely and efficiently manage your glass waste. Whether you work in a retail environment that sells glass, such as bottled beverages and glass home decor, or a warehouse environment that handles glass, we can make sure you have the best glass collection management solutions for you.
Where Does Glass Recycling Go?
The process for recycling glass depends on the type of glass you need to recycle. If you have broken glass, window panes, and glass bottles and jars all to recycle at the same time, you will just need to separate your waste glass into individual glass bins.
The glass is then taken to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), where it is separated from other products such as tin, paper, or plastic. The glass is then sorted by colour and washed to remove any contaminants.
Once it is clean, it is crushed, melted, and moulded into new products like bottles and jars. Glass that doesn't make it into bottles and jars is often used for other purposes, such as glass wool, building aggregate, and fibre optic cables.
