What is Plastic Waste?

In 2020, the world generated 300 million tonnes of plastic waste! Plastic is such a huge part of our lives now, we can simply not imagine life without it. It is one of the most popular and useful products of modern times and it is vitally important that we reuse and recycle plastic as many times as possible to prevent having to create new plastics. This helps to reduce damage to the environment, human and animal life, the amount of waste going to landfill, conserves fossil fuels and reduces the amount of energy it takes to produce new plastics.

What Happens to Plastic Waste?

Once your plastic waste is collected it is taken to a specialist plastics recycling centre, where it is sorted by polymer type, this is mainly done automatically plus a manual sort to make sure any contaminated material is removed.

Once it is sorted and cleaned the plastic is then shredded. The shredded plastic is then melted and formed into pellets. These pellets can then be used to make new products.
